Synopsis: The concrete
being a composite material maximum amount of research work is going on to study
its properties and its behavior with different materials to achieve optimum
strength, economy or durability in construction. The use of pozzolanic and cementitious materials in
the concrete industries has risen
sharply during the last fifty years as mineral admixture [ Finely divided
materials which are added to obtain specific engineering properties of cement
mortar and concrete]. The reasons behind it are many. Cement, which requires
high energy during its manufacturing process whereas the flyash, blast furnace
slag and Silicafume are the industrial by-product, that are easily available,
require little or no much of processing and have inherent cementitious
properties. Here Silicafume is relatively new material. The
interest in the Silicafume started with the strict enforcement of air pollution
controls in many countries, which implied that the industry had to stop
releasing Silicafume along with other fine gases into the atmosphere. To find a
solution to this problem, studied were initiated and after some investigation,
it was found that the Silicafume could be used as a very reactive pozzolanic
material in concrete. Investigations on the performance of Silicafume in
concrete have been conducted in various countries. Research work has been
reported on Silicafume in India and some applications have been reported in
special structures. Study of Silicafume and its effects on properties of
resulting concrete based on literature study that consists: Silicafume

of Silicafume on properties of hardened concrete Durability
